Course Description:
The 2014 Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation, 5th Edition cites building envelope testing as well as duct infiltration testing. This course prepares students to obtain a certification from the Building Performance Institute in accordance with FS 553.990-998 to perform these tests. It teaches the air leakage test methods found in Section R402.4.1.2 that to measure building envelope leakage using blower door equipment. It also covers the duct leakage test found in Section R403.2.2 that uses ‘duct tester’ equipment. [While this is voluntary, the latter may prove critical as a diagnostic tool in passing the blower door test, as the US Department of Energy has indicated that significant building envelope leaks may be found in house ductwork.]

Target Audience
This course is designed for contractors, builders and code officials. Construction trades are also recommended to attend. Trades include, but are not limited to, framers, HVAC contractors, electricians, plumbers, insulators and air sealers. This course is open to anyone that wants to understand the residential testing requirements of the 2014 Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation 5th Edition and or plans to be an approved tester.

Course Objectives
This course will ensure participants understand the residential testing requirements of the 2014 Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation 5th Edition. Upon completion of the course participants will be able to perform the required testing procedures, blower door & duct tests, and calculate the results for compliance. This is a full preparation course for participants to take the Building Performance Institute Infiltration & Duct Leakage certification test. In addition the course provides necessary information and requirements to continue on to become a Building Performance Institute Independent Rater.
