Course Title:  2014 Air Leakage Field Tests, Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation 5th Edition (2014) for Residential Applications

Course # 0611689    Category:  General

CEUs:    1  (1 Hour of Instruction)

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides an overview of the air leakage test methods found in the Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation, 5th Edition (2014) as applies to residential construction.  Section R402.4.1.2 contains the mandatory air leakage test using blower door equipment that measures building envelope leakage.  This course also covers the duct leakage test found in Section 403.2.2 that uses   ‘duct blaster’ equipment.  While this is voluntary, the latter may prove critical as a diagnostic tool in passing the blower door test, as the US Department of Energy has indicated that significant building envelope leaks may be found in house ductwork.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
The overall goal of this course is to ensure participants are familiar with air leakage field test procedures found in the residential portions of the Florida Building Code, Energy Conservation, to improve the likelihood that buildings are constructed in accordance with the building code.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the building envelope air leakage procedure found in Section R4024.1.2
  • Describe the duct leakage procedure test found in Section 403.2.2
  • Describe what each test measures and how the duct test relates to the building envelope test

PRESENTATION METHOD:
This course will be presented as an instructor led lecture using electronic media including slides.

INSTRUCTORS:   Arlene Stewart, Rue Beane, Julio Rovi
